As part of World Environment Day celebrations, Telangana Development Forum (TDF) India, in collaboration with its women empowerment wing TDF Vanitha Cheyutha, organized a meaningful environmental awareness initiative by distributing cotton bags to the public, advocating for reduced plastic usage and environmental protection.

The initiative, aimed at empowering women through productive engagement, also served to raise awareness about the dangers of plastic pollution and the importance of sustainable alternatives. Volunteers from the TDF team, led by TDF India President Matta Rajeshwar Reddy, participated actively in the program, encouraging citizens to adopt eco-friendly habits.

This awareness drive comes in the context of the plastic ban enforced in Telangana, where the use of single-use plastic items and carry bags below 120 microns has been officially prohibited since December 2022, following a notification by the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change. The ban applies to the manufacture, sale, import, stocking, and use of items such as plastic bags, cups, straws, plates, and other disposable plastics.

While the Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) is tasked with enforcing the ban through regular inspections and penalties, there has been growing concern over lax implementation in recent months.

In light of this, TDF has urged the Telangana Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy, to take strict and immediate action to enforce the plastic ban more effectively. TDF emphasized that ensuring compliance is critical not only for public health but also for long-term environmental sustainability.

Through such initiatives, TDF continues to demonstrate its commitment to community development, environmental awareness, and women’s empowerment—building a cleaner, greener future for Telangana.
