Riyadh witnessed a grand celebration of Indian culture on October 25, 2024, as the Embassy of India hosted the second edition of the “Pravasi Parichay” Cultural Festival of Indian Diaspora. Tamilians participated enthusiastically, showcasing Tamil Nadu’s rich heritage with the theme “The Journey of Tamil Culture.”
The event featured a vibrant mix of rock music, traditional village dances, Silambam (martial art), Veena, and Flute performances. This display highlighted the elegance of Tamil language and culture, impressing attendees from various Indian states. The Tamil Nadu Pavilion left visitors in awe, capturing the essence of Tamil Nadu’s places of worship, symbols, food, and hospitality, which created a welcoming atmosphere.
Alongside the indoor performances, the outdoor area offered a Tamil book and crafts exhibition, as well as insights into Tamil Nadu’s academic and professional achievements. Coordinated by Mr. Mohideen Saleem and Mr. Imtiaz Ahmed from the All-India Guidance Committee, the event was organized with the collaboration of Tamil Sangams from Riyadh, Damam, Jeddah, and other social organizations, uniting the Tamil community with an inspiring spirit of resilience.
Local Tamil restaurants like Thambi’s, Chozha, Ponnusamy, and Grand Lucky served traditional Tamil cuisine, taking guests on a culinary journey reflective of Tamil Nadu’s rich history. Tamil Nadu stood out for its outstanding pavilion and performances, winning admiration and promises to impress again in future events.
Embassy officials and audiences from other states praised the unity and cultural depth of the Tamil community, affirming Tamil Nadu’s unique blend of tradition, history, and contemporary relevance in this memorable showcase of India’s diverse cultural heritage.
