Warangal (MediaBuzz Network): As part of the Viksit Bharat Abhiyan, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), a statutory body of the Government of India, in collaboration with National Institute of Technology Warangal (NIT Warangal), organised a state-level workshop on Wednesday titled “Moving Forward through the National Education Policy–2020: Efficient Teacher, Empowered India.”

The workshop focused on strengthening stakeholder capacity for the effective nationwide implementation of the National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST) and the National Mentoring Mission (NMM). Experts deliberated in detail on improving quality, research, and training in the education sector, and shared insights on policy-driven reforms.

At the invitation of the Head of the Department of Education, NIT Warangal, Dr. Kandala Ramaiah, Assistant Mathematics Teacher at the Zilla Parishad High School, Abbapur, Mulugu district, actively participated in the workshop. He played a constructive role by presenting valuable suggestions and practical perspectives on the NPST and NMM initiatives being implemented by NCTE.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ramaiah emphasised the urgent need to strengthen Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) and universities. He pointed out that vacancies in teacher educator positions at several institutions are adversely affecting the quality of teacher education. He suggested that these posts be filled immediately through promotions and direct recruitment.

He also highlighted the importance of providing research grants to teachers with research experience, stating that this would encourage research-based reforms in education. Further, he recommended that NCTE initiatives such as NMM and NPST should effectively reach school-level teachers through SCERTs, as well as through workshops and seminars conducted by universities and NITs, ensuring wider awareness and impact.

Recognising his clear and practical suggestions, Dr. Chanchal Arora, NCTE official, along with Srinivasa Charya, Head of the Department of Education, NIT Warangal, specially appreciated Dr. Kandala Ramaiah.

At the conclusion of the workshop, participants collectively resolved to move forward with the conviction that an efficient and empowered teacher education system, in line with the vision of the National Education Policy 2020, is the foundation for building a Viksit Bharat.
