Shankarpally: The Bathukamma celebrations were grandly organized by the Telangana Development Forum (TDF) in collaboration with the Vanitha Cheyutha Mahila Vibhagam at Pilligundla village on the outskirts of Shankarpally Mandal. The event was inaugurated by the chief guest, T-PCC spokesperson Bhavani Reddy, who officially kickstarted the celebrations. A large number of women from Mokila actively participated in the Bathukamma and Dandiya dance performances.
TDF announced prizes for the participants: the woman who created the Best Traditional Bathukamma received the first prize, the Most Creative Bathukamma creator received the second prize, and the woman dressed as the Bathukamma doll won the third prize. All winners were presented with saplings as awards.
Later, TDF India President Mr. Matta Rajeshwar Reddy stated that Bathukamma is the only festival in the world that worships flowers. He added that it is a matter of pride for Telangana that the festival is celebrated in over 100 countries worldwide. He noted that after the formation of the separate Telangana state, Bathukamma has gained global recognition. During the nine-day festival, a different offering is made to the Bathukamma every day.
Vani Thimmayya, the wife of Subhishi Chairman, spoke about how the festival is a joyful celebration for the women of Telangana, symbolizing bonds and connections while worshipping nature. She emphasized that Bathukamma is a festival that showcases Telangana’s cultural heritage to the world.
She further highlighted that the essence of Telangana’s identity lies within Bathukamma. The Nizamabad folk group’s songs enthralled the audience, adding excitement to the event. The festival was sponsored by Sarada Sarees, Subhishi, Vijetha Supermarket, Nikhila Constructions and Development, Prajan Creations, Ruchikaram, and Crystal Strings Water. Vani Venu Gopal Reddy appreciated the sponsors for their support and extended heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the celebrations.
